Candidate for School Board Member
South Monterey County Joint Union High School District
About Me
My name is Mindy Hunt, and I’m running for School Board Member for South Monterey County Joint Union High School District (SMCJUHSD). Originally from Montana, I made California my home in 2007 and became deeply interested in the well-being of the communities I've lived and worked in. As a homeowner in King City, a dedicated Business Services Analyst for Greenfield Union School District (GUSD), and the spouse of a teacher, I have witnessed firsthand the incredible potential of our students and the dedication of our educators.
My Background
Though my own parents never graduated from high school, I found school an oasis of opportunity and it opened my eyes to all sorts of possibilities. I was the first in a pack of 50 cousins to graduate from college. I began with an associate degree and later completed my Bachelor’s in Business Management as a working professional while in California. I have professional experience as a Finance Assistant for a small municipality that included accounts payable, human resources duties, monitoring budgets and working with Town Councilmembers. I've worked since 2018 as a Health and Wellness Business Services Analyst for GUSD coordinating health benefits, Workers’ Compensation and planning health and wellness events for the district.
Leadership in Action

In 2021, I was proud to lead the “Save Our Local Park” initiative in King City to save a planned park that was on the chopping block. This experience solidified my belief in the power of community action and collaboration. More recently, I served on the Learner-Centered Collaborative at GUSD where I worked with a team committed to ensuring the district’s students are not just prepared for the future but are ready to lead it. Both of these experiences were an eye opener on the power of working as a team to accomplish goals.
Why I'm Running

Education is the foundation of a strong, vibrant community. I believe that by working together, the community can ensure our schools are places where students not only learn but are inspired and empowered. I want to be a voice for students, educators, support staff and families, advocating for the resources and policies that will help the district excel.
My Vision

· Innovative Learning: I am committed to supporting programs that foster creativity, critical thinking and real-world problem-solving

· Community Collaboration: I believe our schools should be a hub of community engagement where parents, educators and local businesses work together to support our youth.

· Equity and Inclusion: Every student deserves the opportunity to succeed, and I will work to ensure that our schools provide a supportive and inclusive environment for all.

· Future-Ready Students: In a rapidly changing world, I believe it is essential that our students are prepared for the challenges and opportunities of tomorrow.
